Week 1 Highlights

Brant had the week off due to the bye week. The only highlight during the Brant practice was John "Hector" Wilson trying to hit BP 25 minutes after eating a birthday cake sized Prime Rib at the Colony House in Irving, NY. Rumor has it he was sweating Au Jus after 8 swings.

WOODLAWN 15 VIGILANT 4

Woodlawn started the season strong led by a 3 HR performance from SS Mike Weller. Ernie Jewett also had 5 K's for Woodlawn. Charlie Zahm Sr had no comment after the game, but did yell LT 53 times during the game.

NORTH COLLINS 7 NORTH EVANS 6

Several members of the Brant squad were in attendance for the North Evans/North Collins game. North Collins came out ahead in this back and forth battle with 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. A clearly frustrated Alan Hazard was quoted after the game as saying, "it was a tough loss, but it's early, and I am just looking forward to playing some Texas Hold'em tonight."(this quote may have been 100% made up)

FARNHAM 19 ORCHARD PARK 12

Well, the rust came flying off the players as Farnham and Orchard Park squared off for the season opener. Visiting Farnham took a 2 run lead in the top of the first only to have OP even the score in the bottom. The game was a classic see-saw battle until the 6th inning when Farnham combined for 6 runs. This put Farnham up on Orchard Park 18 -12 and after adding one more in the 7th finished them off strong with a great
season starting victory. Next up for Farnham; a tough trip to North Collins, for Orchard Park, they will meet the visitors from Hamburg on
the 12th.

Week 2 Highlights

BRANT 16 HIGHLAND 1

Brant finally kicked the season off against Highland on Tuesday. Vince Fininzio started the season off with a leadoff HR and Brant never looked back, with a 16-1 victory. 35 year veteran Billy Hill Sr had 2 hits and 3 RBI's before leaving the game to make sure the beer was cold. Professional Squatter John Adimey had 4 line drive base hits, and Brant Rookie Tony Puntillo had 3 hits in his Brant debut. The big winner of the evening though was Bobbo's Tacos in Derby, NY. Sources tell us that the Brant squad spent enough money there to feed a family of four for 2-3 months. Next up for Brant is Lakeview. Tickets still available.

NORTH COLLINS 33 FARNHAM 7
FARNHAM SCORED 4 RUNS AT THERE FIRST AT BAT. NC CAME UP TO BAT AND NEVER LOOKED BACK. FRANK MONTALDI HIT A BLOOPER TO HIS SISTER GINA CONSIDINE SHE DROPPED IT BUT STILL THREW HIM OUT AT FIRST FRANK HAS GREAT SPEED!!!! SCOTT BACON HIT THE FIRST HOME RUN OF THE YEAR OUT OF THE PARK, GREAT HIT SCOTT

WOODLAWN 30 WINCHESTER16
WOODLAWN CAME OUT SMOKING HAD A 13 -- 4 EDGE AFTER 2 INNINGS AND NEVER LOOKED BACK......FINAL SCORE WOODLAWN 30 WINCHESTER 16. FYI VINNY PUPO.....I THINK 30 PACKS ARE ON SALE AT THE MOBIL ACROSS FROM YOUR FIREHALL

ORCHARD PARK 20 HAMBURG 4The bats of Orchard Park had a momentus day! The game started out slow but in the 3rd inning Orchard Park Center Fielder Matt "Toby" Cavanagh hit an in the park (in the fence) homerun scoring the runners that were on 2nd and 3rd. Veteran pitcher Bob "Beanie" Benning just out of retirement came in to hurl a tremendous game while starting pitcher Chris Couell took over the third base coaching duties while nursing his broken fingers. Momentarily demoted to first base coach, Joe "Pathetic" Kovacevic was heard screaming HOO-YAAHH at the Orchard Park win, then was later heard commenting, "Crap, I have to go to work now!" A great game and lots of fun was had by all and everyone enjoyed make-your-own subs back at OP's hall. Great defensive plays were made by Hamburg's third baseman who ROBBED OP of several great hits with his defensive prowess.

Week 3 Highlights

BRANT 7 LAKEVIEW 0

Brant had another week off as they won by forfeit to Lakeview. Next up is the revenge game vs North Evans. Great seats still available.

WOODLAWN 21 ORCHARD PARK 10

Ricky Mardino had a 3-run home-run and Larry Tyger and Mike Weller each had 2 triples among many other hits by all of the Woodlawn sluggers as they rolled over Orchard Park 21-10. Orchard Park started out slow allowing 6 runs in the first inning and Woodlawn took advantage of every opportunity. There were a few minor glimpses of hope for Orchard Park in the top of the fifth inning and Orchard Park, on the verge of losing in the ever-hated 15 run rule came out slugging away and started chipping away at the 14 run lead Woodlawn had built. A grand-slam homerun by Jack Putnam really added fuel to the fire for Orchard Park. Unfortunately, Woodlawn was ready to put that fire out! They slammed the door for the rest of the game not allowing more than 1 hit and finalized their victory. A great game was played and a lot of fun was had.

NORTH EVANS 20 ANGOLA 5

todd johnson homered and jack hazard hit a 456 ft stand up triple to lead north evans to a 20-5 win over angola. Owner of TMS landscaping, steve fininzio and todd dybdal of Todds landscaping were seen
talking about mulch and stone prices after steves infield double in the 4th inning. Bob Reed saw his first action of the year, stated,"my pitching stinks worse thn my breath"(true statement)

Week 4 Highlights

BRANT 21 NORTH EVANS 5

North Evans has had this game circled since the schedule came out in April. For those of you that may have missed it, North Evans had Brant down 17-7 in the bottom of the 7th inning in last years playoff, but lost the game 18-17. This win enabled Brant to stay alive and eventually win the Championship. The day started out gloomy, but by gametime, the sun was shining, and so were the Brant Bats. Brant jumped out in front 13-0 before North Evans stepped up to the plate. North Evans never recovered as Brant came out on top 21-5, in 5 innings. Brant was led by the Hill brothers 10 RBI's. Taller Hill brother Joe had 2 HR's and 6 RBI's, while shorter fatter Hill brother Bill Jr(Tater) had 3 hits and 4 RBI's. Vince Fininzio also had 4 hits out of the leadoff spot. Ageless wonder Wayne Falk gave up only 5 hits. Brant continued their winning ways at North Evans Firehall by taking 1st(yours truly), 2nd(Joe Hill), and 3rd(Super Rook Tony Puntillo) in the 16 man Texas Hold'em tourney. Next up for Brant is their first home game vs East Seneca. As of now, only single seats remain.

Woodlawn 18 North Collins 8
North Collins came out in the top of the first and scored 4 runs and held off Woodlawn up till the 5th inning when Woodlawn had a big inning and took command of the game from there.Lake Shore 7 Winchester 6 LAKESHORE AT WINCHESTER,VERY CLOSE GAME.LAKESHORE PREVAILS WITH A WIN........FINAL SCORE LAKESHORE 7 WINCHESTER 6

Week 5 Highlights

BRANT 23 EAST SENECA 18

WOW! What a game this was. East Seneca visited Brant on the last day of May, and the 2 teams did not disappoint. East Seneca started the game hot, with 5 runs in the first inning. Brant came back with 6 in the bottom of the first, led by back to back HR's to lead off the game by David Pero and Tater Hill. East Seneca, though, came back with 5 more in the 2nd to again regain the lead, but Brant answered again, with 8 in the bottom of the second. This back and forth battle continued all game, with Brant prevailing 23-18. Tom "Otis" Whelan, led Brant, going 5-5, hitting for the cycle, and driving in 7 runs. Whelan was quoted as saying..."I never hit like this when I was skinny....Let's go the Fox's Den for some Wings." John Adimey also had a huge game, with 3 hits and 4 RBI's. Leading the hitting for East Seneca was Darryl Clifford with 2 monster Home Runs, and Rusty Funk had 5 hits and hit for the cycle. This game had it all, several lead changes, 48 hits, 6 Home Runs, 41 runs, and 2 people hitting for the cycle. Great game boys. Next up for Brant is cross town rival Farnham. This game has been rescheduled for Monday June 6th. Tickets still available.

WINCHESTER 7 LAKEVIEW 6

BILL SZEWC GETS HIS 2nd HIT OF THE YEAR AND JACK MARONEY COMES BACK WITH 2 HOMERS AS WINCHESTER HANGS ON FOR THE VICTORY.FINAL SCORE WINCHESTER--7.....LAKEVIEW---6

NORTH EVANS 19 HAMBURG 4

Andre Galenda homered, doubled and had 6 RBI's as North Evans beat Hamburg 19-4. James Atzrott(OTIS OF NORTH EVANS) played solid defense and Jack Hazard pitched 5 flawless innings also going 4-4 to help his own cause. Residents from the Claddagh Commission were on hand to
witness the spectical, some said they seen an unidentified fling object over the field, leaving a trail of smoke that read BRANT WAS HERE. followed by questions like Where is Brant?

Orchard Park 14 North Collins 13

North Collins came rushing into Orchard Park and started off the game the right wayscoring runs. NC scored 3 runs in the top of the first and the game just got more and more interesting from that point! To say the game was a see-saw battle would be an understatement. North Collins' best offensive inning came in the top of the 3rd when they combined for 5 hits and drew 3 walks to lead them to 6 runs. An amazing diving catch by center fielder Matt "Toby" Cavanagh helped to plug the leak in OP's defensive game. The bats from Orchard Park seemed to be working again this week as OP kept North Collins' 3rd baseman and shortsop on their toes! This game had great hitting by both clubs who seemed to be able to place the ball where the fielders were not. In the end, OP won out. In the bottom of the senveth with 2 men down and runners on 1st and 2nd, down by one, Chris Couell came up to bat and drove in 2 runs with a great double up the middle. A great defensive battle was fought and neither team was willing to give up at any point. So, when the game winning run crossed the plate at 9:05pm, all the players on both sides were whipped, but not too tired to go back to Orchard Park for some spaghetti and meatballs!!! Next up for North Collins is a trip to Vigilant this week as Highland will travel to face Orchard Park.

Woodlawn 34 Highland 3

WOODLAWN WON 34 TO 3. HIGHLAND JUMPED ON US EARLY WITH 3 RUNS IN THE TOP OF THE 1ST BUT WOODLAWN FOLLOWED WITH 13 OF THEIR OWN AND NEVER LOOKED BACK. MARK WARSAW HAD 2 HOME RUNS AND MIKE WELLER HIT FOR THE CYCLE. I THINK HIGHLAND FELT SORRY FOR MIKE AND LET HIM GET IT. THANKS HIGHLAND MIKES HEAD IS BIG ENOUGH WITHOUT YOUR HELP

Week 6 Highlights

BRANT 23 FARNHAM 1

Brant and Farnham met Tuesday on a warm and windy June day. Farnham started the game with an early run, but could not conatin the red hot Brant bats. Brant scored 3 in the first, and broke it open with 17 in the second inning to pave the way for a 23-1 victory. Brant was lead by Home Runs by Jeff Renaldo and Mike Hoch(3 RBI's). Hector Wilson had 4 RBI's, and Tony Puntillo also chipped in with 3 RBI's. Wayne Falk pitched 2 solid innings, before giving way to young pitching prospects, Vince Fininzio and Hector Wilson. The 2 young flamethrowers combined for 3 scoreless innings. Once again the post game Texas Hold'em tourney was won by Tater Hill, while Chicken man Peter Chiavetta, from Farnham, finished in second. When asked how he was able to fight through all of the talented Brant poker players to finish 2nd, he simply stated..."pot odds". Next up for Brant is another border war, with the boys from North Collins traveling to visit the Homer Dome in Brantsylvania. As of now, this game is a sellout. Since the addition of Tony Puntillo, attendance for Brant home games has doubled.

NORTH EVANS 10 SCRANTON 8

Game faces were on Thursday as 3-2 North Evans met 4-1 Scranton. Hits, runs, errors and tempors were all flying around until the 6th inning when James(Otis of North Evans) laced a first pitch,2 run homer to parts unknown. Bob reed recorded his 3rd save, facing 5 batters, walking 3,and yet still got out of a bases loaded jam. Bob Reed stated after the game"although i had breath mints, my pitching still stunk!" (true statement)

Reserve 16 vs Union 5

Close game until the top of the 7th. Union took an early lead in the 1st, 2-1, but Reserve came back in the 2nd with a 4-2 lead. It was a back and forth game until the top of the 7th inning. The score was 7-5 in Reserve's favor, when Reserve finally got it together, batting around the line up. Reserve scored 9 runs in the top part of the 7th, to go on to win the game 16-5.

ORCHARD PARK 8 HIGHLAND 7

Highland came out swinging when they arrived in OP on Thursday and took a commanding 5 run lead in the 1st. The Orchard Park bats were still sleeping and stayed that way until the bottom of the 7th when they finally woke up and combined for 7 hits. The big hit of the game came with 2 outs and Jimmy Putnam came up to bat. With 2 men on base, Jimmy calmly took his place and simply pummeled the ball out past the left fielder for a home run! What a come back. Next up Higland will host Scranton while OP hosts North Evans - 2 good games to be sure!

EAST SENECA 10 WOODLAWN 3

Woodlawn lost to East Seneca 10-3 the "Skin man" had his pop gun loaded because he got Woodlawn to pop up 14 times with only 2 balls hit on the ground.

Week 7 Highlights

BRANT 6 NORTH COLLINS 3

Brant and North Collins squared off on a hot, humid Tuesday at the Brant Town Park. Despite the fact that North Collins was able to keep the Brant bats in check, the hometown boys were able to squeak out a low scoring 6-3 victory. Brant was led by 3 hits and 2 RBI's from Tater Hill, and 2 RBI's from Tony Puntillo, including his first HR of the year. Wayne Falk gutted it out for the victory, including getting out of a 7th inning jam, which saw North Collins strand runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. The post game Texas Hold'em tourney was won by Jeff Renaldo, who recovered from last weeks pot odds disaster. Jeff, still bitter about last week said."how in the hell could he have had pot odds.....he wasn't even in the pot yet." Next up for Brant is another big division game at Scranton.

WOODLAWN 28 CIRVFD 5

Woodlawn came back from the loss to East Seneca to beat the Rez 28-5. Chuck Zahm pitched 3 strong innings along with Little Ernie getting his first home run.

NORTH EVANS 30 ORCHARD PARK 5

ENFUEGO!! North Evans bats were alive and well in their 30-5 win over Orchard Park.Al Hazard,ToddJohnson,Cornell Holler and James(OTIS OF NORTH EVANS/Hi-Tech Heat Senior Mens Hockey Champ/Defensive Partner of Brant FH Tater Hill)Atzrott were all 4 for 5. Jack Hazards hot bat was cooled off in the third inning with a line drive to JoAnna Covell. Jack stated after 4 tacos and 3 pitchers of beer,"that girl can play, even better than her hubby!" Jack also finished 4-5. Ryan DeSantis said during the 3rd inning,"this is a BRANT like performance" Ryan also had a couple hits but no one cared, esp. Steve Fininzio who had to pinch run for him each time, stated "you gotta lose weight". Bob (big bad stinky mouth) Reed got his 4th save, said after"i hate breath mints".....Editors note...Al I am not sure there is a save situation in a 30-5 game.

Week 8 Highlights
BRANT 23 SCRANTON 4

Brant and Scranton squared off on Tuesday in a key division game. The Brant boys once again started out strong with 7 in the top of the first, leading the way to a 23-4 victory. Brant was lead with 4 RBI's from David Pero, Joe Hill(also had a monster Home Run into the parking lot), and Tom "Otis is Good" Whelan. Jason Renaldo also had his first hit and 2 RBI's on the season. On another note, word on the street is that the car insurance sector of the stock market fell 6% in early trading. The sharp decline was due to the report coming from last nights game that 41 cars were dented or hit with balls from the Brant team, causing a spike in claims. There was no post game Hold'em tourney to report on, but since I probably would have won, I will crown myself the winner. Any Brant boys reading this, bring $20 to practice Sunday for me. Next up for Brant is their rival from down the big hill....The boys from the Rez. This is a tough ticket in Brant, so check your secondary ticket markets for tix to this one

NORTH EVANS 11 VIGILANT 3

North Evans beat Vigilant on a mild night in West
Seneca. The Bulls were led by Todd Johnsons 3RBI's and James"OTIS OF NORTH EVANS" going 4-4 w/ a homerun & 4 runs scored. Jack Hazard silenced the young Vigilant bats and got his 6TH win, also helping his own cause w/ 2 hits and a stolen base. Next up for NE, are the HOSERS from Highland. EDITORS NOTE....unless there was a chemical spill at the field causing all of Vigilant's players to pass out.....I do not believe that Jack had a Stolen Base....unless 2nd base was made of Ho-Ho's

ORCHARD PARK 21 ANGOLA 16 A good battle between these teams saw each of the teams having "that one bad inning", with the opponent capitalizing on the other teams mistakes. Good hitting and fielding was the name of the game throughtout most of the night. A great 7th inning comeback run by Angola was squashed by some great plays from shortstop Jack Putnam and Left Fielder Andy Coppola. The game saw some great at bat efforts by Bob "Beanie" Benning, Chris Couell, Matt "Toby" Cavanagh, and Sam Cino. Next up for Angola will be a trip to North Collins and Orchard Park will visit Big Tree.

VIGILANT 22 HAMBURG 5

Vigilant's first four tore it up with the changing of May's and Loga's socks. Each of them scored in the sixth inning with Jeff Loga having two homeruns in that inning alone. With all there starters, Vigilant looks to put to rest the rumors of being a push-over. Visit us at www.vigilantfire.com

Week 11 Highlights

Brant 19 Angola 5

On quite possibly the hottest and most humid day of the summer, the Brant Bombers visited Angola, after a 2 week layoff. Angola came to play, and it looked as if they might pull off the upset. Angola was leading 5-4 to start the 6th inning, and Brant not looking as if they were going to be able to shake off the rust from a 2 week layoff. Brant though was able to rediscover their bats and pull away 19-5. Brant was led by Joe Hill, 4 RBI's, Tater Hill, 3 RBI's, Vince Fininzio, 3 hits & 4 runs, and Tony Puntillo, mammoth HR. Next up for Brant is a 2PM date with Woodlawn on Super Saturday. This game has been a sell out from the moment the schedule came out. With rumors flying around that the Zahm family will be out of town for this matchup, we will be having tryouts at the Brant field Friday. We will be looking for someone to yell "Here We Go Woodlawn", "Michael George", "Dip Dip Dip Dip Dip", and "Let's go Big Ern" in Charlie Zamn SR's absence. The winner of this competition, though, will have to have a son that wears Chuck Taylors.

Week 12 Highlights

Brant 9 Woodlawn 7

In abattle of divison leaders, a banged up Brant squad held off a banged up Woodlawn squad 9-7 in an ugly, wet, rain shortened Saturday matinee. Brant was led by Joe Hill, 4-4 and 2 RBI's, Tom Whelan, 3 Run Homer, and John Adimey, 2 run Triple. Next up for Brant is a home game vs Vigilant, while Woodlawn gets the week off for the bye week. EDITORS NOTE...John Adimey looks to be OK after a scare vs Woodlawn...he appears to have a strained MCL, which is better than the tear we all feared....

OP 2 Lake Shore 6
Chet's pitching proved powerful enough to keep the Orchard Park bats asleep in an early morning game to start off Super Saturday. Lake Shore's Jeff Reid was outstanding at third base. Both teams played great defensive games as Lake Shore beat Orchard Park 6-2. Fun was had by all and then the two teams stayed and enjoyed the rest of the Super Saturday line-up together sharing the same shade tree.

BIG TREE 21 LAKEVIEW 19
Big Tree ended a 25 game losing streak, dating back to week 2 of the 2004 season, with a 21-19 victory in a hard fought game against Lake View on Super Saturday. The Makin brothers and Chris Maser each scored 4 runs, and Rob Pruski pitched 5 strong innings, giving up just 6 runs to help give Big Tree a 18-6 lead going into the 7th inning. A 45 minute, error and walk filled top of the 7th almost killed Big Tree as Lake View staged an amazing comeback and scored 13 runs to take the lead. But Big Tree took full advantage of last ups, getting 2 runners on base, followed by 2 outs. Bill Locher came through in a big way, 2 outs down by 1 run and working with a full count, he drilled the ball in the gap at left center to drive in the tying and winning runs.

Thanks for being such good sports!!!!

Orchard Park 11 Vigilant 7

This was a game that went on into the very dark hour of nine o'clock before the bats of Orchard Park woke up! A great game was played by both teams and some great defensive plays were made on both sides, it was a fun game all around!

Week 15 Highlights

Brant 16 Lake Shore 5
Brant played Lake Shore on what looked to be a great day, but the weather turned for the worst around 640PM. The game looked as if was going to be rained out, but we moved it to the Field of Dreams at Jeff Renaldos house. Somehow his field was dry as a bone, so after a 25 minute delay the game was on. A back and forth game was broken open in the 4th with 5 Brant runs, leading the Brant squad to a 16-5 victory. Brant was lead by Hector Wilson, 2 HR's, 5 RBIs, Vince Fininzio, triple, HR, and 2 RBIs, and Tater Hill, triple and 2 RBIs. Another highlight of the evening was Tom Whelan registering the first strikeout of the year for Brant. Thanks Chet, as this will cost Otis a case of beer and a bucket of Wings....mmmmmm...wings. Next up for Brant is a makeup game vs Orchard Park...date has not been determined yet.

N.COLLINS 10 WINCHESTER 7
NORTH COLLINS AT WINCHESTER.....GREAT BATTLE ALL GAME.WENT INTO EXTRA INNINGS.N.COLLINS SQUEEKS OUT A WIN.

BRANT 6 ORCHARD PARK 4

Orchard Park and Brant battled on another dreary, rainy day in Brant. For the third straight game, the weather was nice all day, only to have heavy rain fall around 6pm. The rain finally let up around gametime, allowing us to play ball. OP came out of the gate flying with 3 in the first inning. Brant bats were held in check for the whole game, but were able to claw their way back and squeak out a 6-4 victory. Brant was led by Jeff Renaldo, 2 hits and a HR, and Tony Puntillo, inside the park HR. This was not the way Brant wanted to finish the season, but as they say, a win is a win.
